JEAN-BAPTISTE
Fine art on silk
Daniel Gabriel Angelo Jean-Baptiste was born on the Caribbean Island of Saint Lucía, in 1963, to parents of Dutch Jewish and African Carib descent.
Jean-Baptiste began to paint at a young age. Soon visitors to the island began to notice the litlle boy who had the gift of capturing the cobalt blue sea with his watercolors.
In 1978 he moved to Canada where he was introduced to silk painting during his eight years working in commercial art for Display Arts of Toronto.
Jean-Baptiste and his family moved to St. Lucía in 1995, his work reflecting the beauty of the island's fish and flowers. The translucency of the work allows light to further enhance the silk's natural luster.
He returned to Canada in october 2004, to explore new opportunities for his children and for his art, but he continues to be inspired by the beauty of his island home.
